In Chris ’ family, only two kids out of five were not in Special Ed. The mother was a character and readily admitted she didn’t know how to handle her offspring. It was said the last two were conceived after conjugal visits to her incarcerated husband; someone she claimed to hate.

David’s mom, Mary Ellen, always had a great sense of humor. She was very supportive of me as well as David’s other teachers. Mary Ellen and I became good friends the years I was David’s resource teacher. Recently she sent me pictures of the inside of David’s fourth-grade lunch box.
