Tillie Olsen 123 x 365 (RIP)

I met Tillie Olsen at an intimate reception after she spoke at AU in 1999. When I told her that her story I Stand Here Ironing helped me raise my daughter more than any professional advice could, she took my hand and said, “You must write a story about that.”

Oh this sketch just lifted me up in so many ways! Thanks!
R.I.P. Tillie!
And I hope you are following her words and writing that story!

The reception was held at a friend's house, and only a few people were invited. After being introduced to her, we ate dinner and she sat next to me. I just remember how real she was. We talked of food and weather and just life. Probably one of the most special evenings of my life.

I have not written the story yet. I hope I actually will.
