Ulick 221 x 365

Unlicensed bed & breakfast host, Ulick found tenants by approaching them at the Dublin train station. Although his wife was gravely ill in one of the bedrooms, he managed to provide clean sheets, a bed and a filling, if somewhat disorganized, breakfast. He laced his morning tea with homemade Poteen.

Oh dear lord, did you stay there? Or did you know him in another context? I can't imagine being a guest and finding out all that other stuff and not having it be a strange experience.

We were guests. It was very weird. I have a photo of him somewhere. I'll upload it if I can find it.

This was in 1985 and our honeymoon. My husband liked the idea of saving money on places to sleep, so we took the shady digs about half the time.

A little scary... (and a little brave).
