I remember seeing him in person only once, at a baby or wedding shower for a distant relative. His mother was the hostess and he was there in the background with some other boys. This foggy and imperfect memory is what I see when visiting his name on The Wall.

I once went to the wall with a friend who had served in Vietnam. He found the name of a guy he really disliked and said something like, He was an asshole, but no one deserves to die that way.

George, Tim ’s friend from Columbia, Maryland , must have often worn clothes that matched because I called him color-coordinated. He replied: everyone who lived in that planned community was color-coordinated – it was a rule. I now live about thirty minutes from Columbia and, still think of it as Color Coordinated Columbia.
