Sitting on the floor of Janet’s living room drinking wine, I declared my admiration that she’d been published. She laughed and said it was no big deal; the romance phase was just for practice. She had something else cooking. I see that she’s now on number twelve of that idea.

I know people who are real fans. I think I've read one, listened to one on tape. Was she a friend or an acquaintance?

Her husband and my husband worked together. At that time she was publishing bodice rippers under the name Stephie Hall.

I said something like, "I've never met a published author" and she countered with "Well Peter and Dean are both published authors." And I reminded her that they were statisticians and wrote rather dry math stuff.
