Highly opinionated and bold, Mary was editor of JASA at CMU. Although not a statistician, she was dating Rob, the cool and handsome statistics professor. Mary took nothing at face value and always seemed ready for an argument. Once we argued for an hour about preferred brands of toilet paper.

George, Tim ’s friend from Columbia, Maryland , must have often worn clothes that matched because I called him color-coordinated. He replied: everyone who lived in that planned community was color-coordinated – it was a rule. I now live about thirty minutes from Columbia and, still think of it as Color Coordinated Columbia.
