Another Mike 133 x 365

A truck driver, Karen’s husband, Mike, parked his 18-wheeler in front of his house. When Karen was pregnant he rode my brother’s skateboard and broke his foot. He served in Vietnam but didn’t like to discuss it. I understood when, while babysitting, I saw some photographs he’d taken in Vietnam.

powerful images without even seeing them

On his death bed, my father entrusted me with a box of the most horrific pictures from the Korean war.
...I'm still waiting to understand what I need to do with them.

What I couldn't figure out about Mike's photographs were that he had them just lying on a coffee table in the family room. I'm guessing he was looking at them, then forgot to put them away before he and Karen went out that night. I'd not ever seen anything like them and wondered why he'd taken them in the first place - to remember the horrors?
